Our Story
We have been around for a while! Our story actually starts in the early 1900's with a small floristry shop in Catford.
We are very proud of who we are and where we've come from.
In the Beginning...
The name Phoebes has not always been synonymous to landscaping alone. In the early 1900's a lady named Phoebe set up a small floristry shop in Catford, South East London. The business flourished and along with her husband Ernest they bought a small plot of land where they grew flowers to stock the shop as well as to supply the Covent Garden Flower Market.
Garden Centre
As demand grew, and Phoebes son Roy took an interest and became involved in the business, a small shop was built on the plot selling garden sundries. During 1978, Phoebes Grandson Michael helped out with the business and it was then that he realised the huge growing demand for garden landscaping. It was from this realisation that Phoebes Landscapes Limited was born. The company has gone from strength to strength, having started with just Michael and a friend carrying out the work, expanding into a professional and knowledgeable team of over 20 staff today.
Expansion
After establishing Phoebes Landscapes Limited as a successful business, Michael recognised the growing demand for Garden Centres, and so througout the 1980s the Garden Centre side of the business was twice expanded, and eventually became the largest Garden Centre in South East London, including a pet and aquarium department.
Phoebes Garden Centre continued to provide an excellent quality of service and customer advice for the next 35 years, until, with a heavy heart, in July 2016, it finally closed its doors for the last time!
Phoebes Landscapes Limited
Despite the closure of the Garden Centre, Phoebes Landscapes has gone from strength to strength having established a reputation for the highest quality of work and continued customer service, as well as aftercare.
We still flourish as one of the largest and longest established landscaping companies in Kent and the South East with a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is second to none.
And so it continues...
From its humble beginnings as a small garden centre, the Phoebes name has grown and transformed, emerging into the 21st Century as a thriving business which is still growing…
